Student Research Centre

Natural sciences are exciting

The Student Research Centre (SFZ) is a talent factory, think tank, research lab, knowledge centre in STEM subjects (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) – and a popular meeting point: Several hundred pupils of various ages come to the SFZ to freely research in their fields of interest – without any limits and time tables.

Student Research Centres operate as non-profit public-private partnerships, supported by local governments, foundations, associations, regional companies, and funded by the Ministry of Education. Supporting the Student Research Centres is a valued and ongoing commitment of the CLAAS Foundation.

Student Research Centre Osnabrück

A home for young researchers and tinkerers in Osnabrück.

Dance championships with a robot? No problem for the Student Research Centre (SFZ). Self-constructed robots drive through a course, get around obstacles or score goals. What you need is a keen interest in technical and science issues, working freely and independently, but also team spirit and creativity.

Several renowned companies and institutions started in 2008 to make their contribution in triggering school kids‘ interest in natural science and engineering. The CLAAS Foundation established the SFZ with local partners. Also the Federal State of Lower Saxony supports this research institution.

Student Research Centre Südwürttemberg

Popular and top-level support in the STEM field, following the example of sports.

The Student Research Centre (SFZ) Südwürttemberg e.V. goes beyond the limits of the school curriculum. It offers children and young people with a passion for mathematics, computer science, natural sciences, and technology (STEM subjects) the opportunity to research, develop, and invent in their free time. Participants show their work at approximately 40 national and international competitions and fairs. The association was founded in 1977.

Social educational institution

Comprehensive support for young people must be independent of their background or the school they attend in their daily lives. This is because education in Germany still depends heavily on the socio-economic status of the parents. With its eight closely networked locations where children and young people are supported free of charge, the SFZ Südwürttemberg is currently unique in Germany. Entry into a life as a researcher can take place at any level from secondary school onwards. Many pupils make new friends in the courses and then start their own research and development projects. Others already come with a concrete idea for a project and find the opportunity to implement it at the SFZ. Still others are inspired by the proposals offered for research projects.
