International Field Robot Event in Bernburg

Highly focused students tinkered with their robots right up to the last second.

135 participants from across Europe, divided into 16 teams, took on five different challenges at this year’s Field Robot Event in Bernburg/Germany with their autonomous agricultural robots. The CLAAS Foundation not only supported the event but also new teams.

The agricultural robots tackled real-world challenges in modern farming. These included navigating through a maize field, detecting unhealthy characteristics in maize plants, identifying and categorising insects, and recognising specific areas and applying the appropriate cultivation methods. Last but not least, the programme featured a freestyle challenge on the theme of sustainability.

First place in the overall standings went – as it did last year – to the ‘Acorn’ team from the University of Applied Sciences and the University of Osnabrück (DE). The ‘Robatic Bullseye’ team from Wageningen University (NL) took second place. Third place went to the ‘FREDT’ team from the Technical University of Braunschweig (DE).

As well as presenting their autonomous agricultural robots, the students had plenty of time to exchange ideas and network with one another.
